20 Years, Still There

Kimi Raikkonen first joined the sport in 2001 for the Sauber F1 team. He has been in the sport ever since, with only a short break between 2010 and 2011. Altogether, he holds the record for the most race entries and starts (more than 330).

Raikkonen has, speaking to RacingNews365, confirmed that Alfa Romeo’s performance will not be a factor in his decision whether to retire or not; “I doubt it’s going to make any difference on what happens next year.”

“But obviously the more better we can do, the more fun it is not just for us as drivers but for the team and everybody is more happy the better you do.”

The Finnish driver had a best finish of P9 last season for the team, accumulating 4 points over the duration of the season. While this may seem quite low, Kimi seems to have nothing against the team, or still driving in the future.

“When you’re not exactly where you want to be, it’s always long years, it’s not as much fun and you can see it on everybody’s faces.

“We keep working and improving and hopefully be up there where we want to be, hopefully regularly challenging for the points. But for sure it’s not going to be easy, everybody wants to be there so we just keep working.”

During the season-opener in Bahrain this year, he finished in P11, ahead of his teammate Antonio Giovanazzi who finished 12th.

“For sure, we got a bit more horsepower,” said Raikkonen. “Definitely it is a step forward and it is a step in the right direction.
