After 14 years on the backbench, Imola returned to the calendar last year. At the moment it also looks like it’s here to stay! That’s not to say, though, that there aren’t going to be any changes.

The Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari has just one, lonely DRS zone. This isn’t favourable with the current era of cars, as overtaking on this track can be extraordinarily difficult through the low-speed chicanes and narrow track. While still better than a street circuit, the chances of a thrilling race are lower than some well-established tracks on the calendar.

To aid with this, it has been decided that the DRS zone will be extended for this weekend. Last year, the detection point was just after the exit of Rivazza 2, and the activation point was located on the control line itself.

This year, the activation point has been moved to 60 metres before Turn 19. The control line (situated at the same place as last year) is just after the turn. The detection point has also been moved to accommodate this, to around 20 metres before Rivazza 1.

At this stage, we have not been made aware of any more changes to the track layout from last year.
